Many Danish designers and design companies are present in Milan during the design week, which takes place this month. Here, we mention a small selection of activities.

Line Depping, Jakob Jørgensen and Peter Johansen
MINDCRAFT12 participants Line Depping, Jakob Jørgensen and Peter Johansen all take part in the group exhibition UNCOVERED 2012 along with Elisa Honkanen, Elia Mangia and Simone Simonelli.

For the exhibition, Peter Johansen has created two table series – Campfire and Here You Go – as well as a chair, Barstool 30. Line Depping and Jakob Jørgensen present a joint design, simply called Table. In addition, Jakob Jørgensen exhibits his Knock Down Bookcase. Line Depping presents Book Shelf (photo above), which consists of a sheet of aluminium bent around four ash wood shelves. This bookcase was designed for Danish Crafts’ new meeting room, which was decorated by Line Depping and textile designer Ida Anesdatter Schmidt. For this interior design assignment, Line Depping and Ida Anesdatter Schmidt received a working grant from the Danish Arts Foundation.

GamFratesi
GamFratesi, a design duo comprised by Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi, is active on several fronts in Milan this year. In addition to the Beetle chair, which is part of MINDCRAFT12, GamFratesi’s Haiku sofa is launched by Fredericia Furniture. Haiku was presented as a prototype at Danish Crafts’ exhibition MINDCRAFT11 in Milan in 2011, where the furniture manufacturer Fredericia Furniture spotted it and decided to put it into production. Fredericia Furniture exhibits at the furniture fair Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Hall 20, Stand E12. The Italian company Casamania and the French company Ligne Roset also present furniture by GamFratesi at the fair, respectively in Hall 16, Stand D39 and Hall 5, Stand C09/D04.

Furthermore, GamFratesi has designed the exhibition architecture for Danish Living Room, which is on display at the furniture fair in Hall 10, Stand C07. Danish Living Room was organized by the Danish Consulate-General in Milan and Export Promotion Denmark.

Thomas Bentzen
The Danish design company Muuto presents new products at Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Hall 16, Stand F54. Among the new products is the brand new cushion series Mingle Cushions by Thomas Bentzen, as well as his coffee table Around.

Thomas Bentzen is also represented in the exhibition MINDCRAFT12 where he presents the new chair, ASH.

Dennis Design Center
The design collective Bureau Detours is behind Dennis Design Center – a pop-up design centre where craft and design go hand in hand to solve site-specific problems in the public space. In Milan they will be examining the local needs that emerge when more than 300,000 visitors take part in the design week. Specifically, Dennis Design Center has organized a daily production of benches, stools and swings that is handed out for free to the many visitors at the Temporary Museum for New Design (Superstudio Piu) on via Tortona, 27. The project is supported by Danish Crafts.

Publication on Danish design
The Danish Design Centre has made a new publication on Danish design, which is available free of charge during the design week in Milan. The publication covers a number of Danish designers and design organizations – including Danish Crafts. It is available at the MINDCRAFT exhibition and other official Danish exhibitions in Milan.
