GamFratesi’s Beetle Chair, which was presented as a prototype at Danish Crafts’ MINDCRAFT12 exhibition in Milan last year has now been put into production by the Danish design company Gubi. The chair is presented by Gubi at the Milan design week 2013.
GamFratesi consists of the Danish architect Stine Gam, b. 1975, and the Italian architect and designer Enrico Fratesi, b. 1978. GamFratesi have designed furniture for many leading Danish and international manufacturers, including Ligne Roset, Casamania, Swedese, Erik Jørgensen, Fredericia Furniture and Gubi.
In 2011, GamFratesi’s sofa Haiku was presented as a prototype at Danish Crafts’ MINDCRAFT11 exhibition, where the furniture manufacturer Fredericia Furniture was so convinced of the sofa’s qualities that they decided to put it into production.
In 2012, GamFratesi was represented at MINDCRAFT12 in Milan with the Beetle Chair – also a prototype made for MINDCRAFT – and now the Beetle Chair is being put into production by Gubi.
The inspiration for the Beetle Chair comes from the beetle’s anatomy and aesthetic. GamFratesi reinterprets the beetle’s hard and characteristic shell and structure in a chair that mimics nature’s beetle with its hard exterior and soft interior. The insect’s dynamic ability to move in space is reflected here in a four-legged chair on wheels. The chair is stackable and flexible. Among other uses, the chair is perfect for informal meetings because it allows the participants to move around the table and allows for flexibility and spontaneity in the office.
The Danish furniture manufacturer Gubi was founded in 1967 and is a respected name in both a Danish and an international context. GamFratesi previously designed the chair Masculo for Gubi. Masculo has been part of Gubi’s collection since 2008 and received a GOOD DESIGN AWARD in 2011.
Gubi has exhibitions in two venues in Milan next week:
Salone Internazionale del Mobile
Hall 15, Stand C32-C36
Milan Fairgrounds, Rho
Triennale Design Museum
Salone d’Onore, 6 Via Alemagna
